Come and see me at the Co-op!

Seem to be getting busier and busier. I have 3 drawings (spatials) and one sculpture -Touch -in the new Southwest Florida Arts Council Co-op Gallery in Coconut Point mall. Come and find us - next to Panera, so you can grap a cup of coffee as well. This gallery is huge and well lighted and full of paintings, sculpture, jewelry by the area's best artists, many of whom will be familiar to you as showing in the Promenade. Speaking of which we are still there! The new owner is painting and beautifying the place and we artists have been told we will be there, probably through the season.

I am also teaching at the Bonita Art League - a 5 week drawing course in January (starting 10th) and again in February, starting 19th. I show how to draw from your own photos and they can be of anything you suggest - portraits, pet portraits, local scenes, etc. I will demonstrate and then coach you with your own drawing. Very hands-on. Last year everyone said they had a good time and learned a few things and I was pleased with their results.

While still producing my ink and color pencil spatial drawings I have recently gone back to my first love, graphite, and here are some examples taken from photos I took in one of my very favorite places, Santa Fe. What a place for artists, charming town full of great galleries.

I am glad to say that I am very busy with gallery showings at the moment. Went to the reception at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers last week to learn that the All Florida Juried Show had 250 entries form which only 52 were selected to hang. So to have two selected is an achievement.  This show is on display until beginning of August. (Corner of McGregor & Colonial).
I attended this week the opening reception as a Visiting Artist at the Harbour View Gallery at Cape Harbour in Cape Coral. Six of my wood sculptures are on view there again for two months. This one is "Flow" in Butternut.
I still have three sculptures and four Spatials in the Kathleen Bradford Studio/Gallery in Bonita Springs so my display in my studio at the Promenade is a little depleted. I just compelted another cute dog portrait and (at last) a cat portrait -- in fact two together, Molly and Bear which I have just sent off to the Nebraska owners.
Those two Spatials can be seen in the current issue of American Art Collector magazine as part of the Xanadu Gallery (Scottsdale) advertisement of a selection of their artists.

My wall sculpture is finished and hanging on my client's wall!
After hours of smoothing and several coats of wax it looks great and my clients were jumping up and down with excitement. That reaction is precious. OK, the check helps but the reaction means so much
to me and is why I love commissions.
On the Spatials front, I just heard that two of mine have been accepted for the Alliance for the Arts prestigeous Annual All-Florida Juried Show which can be seen in Fort Myers from 4th June until early August. Excited about that! Here is one of them.

Latest on my commissioned piece. A lot of wood carved away already. As well as what you see I am carving the backside to reduce the weight because it is ultimately to hang on the wall.
This photo shows the importance of lighting. Such a relatively flat sculpture requires strong side lighting to reveal its true shape.
I am very pleased to announce that my Spatials have been accepted by the prestigeous Xanadu Online Gallery. This is excellent exposure.
You had all better buy now before stocks run out!

Here are photos of my butternut sculpture "Conversation" which I just sold.
Pleased to sell it, of course, but feeling a great loss as well. I enjoyed having it around. These wood carvings take a lot of work and much agonising artistic decision-making!

I have been very busy this month, teaching at the Bonita Art League - Graphite Drawings from your Photos, 13 in the two-day class, my Spatials being accepted by the prestigeous Xanadu Online Gallery and winning First Place in my class for my latest sculpture in the Regional Fort Myers Woodcarving Show.
I am very excited about my latest sculpture commission. This will be a 2 foot diameter wall sculpture in butternut. It is 2 inches thick and weighs a lot until I carve away some of it! I take progress photos to send to my client. See the latest above.

Spatial Progress

Well, my Show is over. Great turnout for the reception but didn't sell any!
Oh, well.
Now you can see all my Spatials in my Promenade Studio in Bonita Springs. They look great on the wall beside my black & white graphics. As a reminder -- the Studio is open Monday to Saturday 10am to 3pm and I am there Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. When I'm not, my friend and considerable wildlife oil painter is there and will show you his amazing wildlife paintings.
I am busy again with dog portraits and wood sculptures but still producing wild Spatials -- the latest is No. 28, would you believe?
Visit the Promenade, my studio plus 14 adjacent ones (many terrific artists) and don't forget to come along on the last Thursday of every month for the ArtWalk from 5pm to 8pm with music and wine and snacks in every gallery.
See you soon!
